What is the Genecept Assay?
The Genecept Assay is a cheek swab DNA sample that looks at your genetic makeup to assess the likelihood that you would benefit from the different medications prescribed in the mental/behavioral health family. Your results are typically available within 3-5 business days after your sample is received in the laboratory.
Pharmacodynamic genes indicate the effect a drug has on the body which tells us which medications are likely to be effective in relieving symptoms with minimal side effects.
Pharmacokinetic genes indicates the effect your body has on the drug. This information tells us the speed at which your body breaks down or metabolizes the drug which is helpful in determining the dosing required for efficacy.
Why is testing with the Genecept Assay a good idea?
Up to half of patients respond poorly to the first psychiatric medication they try. The assay looks at key genes in your body and can help guide your clinician to the right treatment sooner.
